My Role: Sound Design
Taking another look at Disney's classic style of musically generating an animation's score and effects. I used archived and recorded sounds to create, assemble, and mix the effects track of the scene.
Process:
It first started with me recording and archiving all sorts of audio before finding something to lay soundtrack on. This type of work flow was suggested to the class because we may find that we can connect sounds from sources not typical to what we see.
I scanned my DVD collection for a suitable scene and fell upon, Fantasia, one of my favorite movies as a kid. The whole concept of Fantasia was to combine animation and music. Specifically, an orchestra was conducted to consider both the music and abstracted sound effects that Disney animations have developed over the years.
When it came down to designing the sound, I found that only a handful of recordings I made, worked with the direction I was going for. With the limited time I had left, I had to rely on SFU's extensive sound library. The eventual layering and manipulation of tracks looked like the following screenshot:
